Can Art Change the World?

Photos from the Spring 2011 creative art project, "From Binaries to Bulls: the (Re)Construction of Identity at the University of South Florida.

Students in Alaina Tackitt's HUM 1020 class, "The Arts" challenge stereotypes with their art project.
The class drew inspiration from French artist/activist, JR.
Students aimed to highlight campus diversity and challenge assumptions.
Students created over 20 of these "binaries" or side-by-side portraits.
The posters were displayed on campus and then moved to Marshall Center Ballroom C for a reception and Q&A with the class.
Congratulations to Ms. Tackitt's HUM 1020 students for completing this innovative project!

Students Set for a Wild Summer


Dr. Sara Dykins-Callahan leads a 10 day, 9 night tour of Yosemite, Kings Canuon, and Sequoia National Parks. This 3 credit hour, experiential course teaches students about the American Wilderness and Ecotourism.

"Ethics of Food Production" Gets Dirty


This 4000-level, American Studies course focused on the ethics of food production in the United States.

Students plant heirloom tomatoes, broccoli, and lettuce.
The class used all organic, non-GMO (gentically engineered) seeds.
Dr. Dykins-Callahan instructs her students how to plant their vegetables.
